Wes’s outlook on life is amazing based on his current situation of living on the streets of Portland Oregon. When I asked the group that he was sitting in who served in the military I saw the light go off for him and he proudly said I did US Army. I asked what his job was and he was replied 162ADA which he described as an Air Defense Vulcan crewman. He told me that he served starting until 1977 until his retirement.
He said he served in Hawaii and I replied so then you must have been at Scofield Barracks and he said 25th ID (infantry division). When he knew I knew what I was talking about he said loud and proud Jquad which I assume was a section or group he was in or a nickname. He said that he went to Korea and learned that you couldn’t trust anyone while he was there during his era.
Wes told me that he lived on the streets with a fellow veteran lady friend who was an airborne jump instructor who didn’t want to be identified. Wes told me life could be worse but his outlook was so bright he felt that he wasn’t in a bad place. Wes said that Portland was his home town and that he will forever call it his home. As I walked away he said Doug keep doing what you are doing and put his hand over his heart.
