“G Day was the day it started this is when my life changed.” The Gulf War is what he can remember it even though it was over 20 years ago and can recall all of his friends he lost as he starred into the distance beyond me. As we chatted, He explained that no reason that I should be sitting here. I told him I was in elementary school and can remember each teacher every allow us to write to the soldiers that was serving.
I then asked could he share any of his experiences and He said he was with 7-6 infantry where they were the initial push or wave not knowing what was ahead and that all they knew was that they had hard charging 3rd Infantry Division soldiers behind them. He then went on to explain some of the things he would never forget was the sandstorms along with those he lost. He said I made it out not without injuries and busted up knees.
I told him on this Veterans day weekend we recognize him, those before and those after. I asked him what his name was, and he said I don’t want to share but you can call me Mr. NYC and I smiled, shook his hands and went on my way.
